3-Day Disaster Management Workshop in Quetta
Comprehensive Training on Various Disasters
Emphasis on Proactive Preparedness
Quetta: In a concerted effort to bolster disaster preparedness, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan jointly organized a comprehensive 3-day training workshop in Quetta.
The initiative aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively handle a range of natural and man-made disasters, including climate change, earthquakes, floods, and accidents.
The workshop addressed critical topics such as how to respond to climate change impacts, strategies for earthquake and flood response, and measures to mitigate the effects of various accidents and natural calamities.
NDMA and PDMA Balochistan experts led sessions on emergency rescue operations and relief activities, providing valuable insights and practical training to enhance the participants’ disaster response capabilities.
In light of the devastating floods of 2022 and the ongoing challenges posed by climate change, the workshop underscored the urgent need for preparedness. Projections indicate that the upcoming monsoon season could see rainfall levels 40 to 60 percent higher than usual.
Additionally, global warming and the accelerated melting of glaciers pose significant risks, including river flooding and the submersion of low-lying areas.
Emphasizing proactive measures, the workshop highlighted the importance of being prepared today to meet tomorrow’s challenges. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the risks associated with natural disasters and learned advanced preparation techniques.
The sessions also fostered research and discussions on climate change, further enhancing the participants’ ability to respond to such crises.
This initiative by NDMA and PDMA Balochistan is expected to play a crucial role in disaster prevention and preparedness at the community level. By raising awareness and promoting early action, the workshop aims to mitigate the impact of future disasters, ultimately safeguarding lives and property.
The 3-day training workshop marks a significant step towards building a resilient and disaster-ready community in Balochistan, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement in disaster management and climate change adaptation strategies.
